Almost - the Maibaum - not quite straight - but good enough! At least it's not leaning against the house anymore! Posted by Picasa

Retrospection - Duernstein May 1 2006

May 1st is one of the many days in a year, when Austrians think it's a great idea to get drunk! The women on the bench certainly enjoyed their pints - watching their drunk husbands, son or grandsons trying to put up the Maibaum... Posted by Picasa

Tour de Calgary - Friday June 23 2006

I am taking advantage of my free time during the day, now that I don't have to sit in an office from 9 to 5 (who invented that anyway???): On Friday Brit and I cycled the Tour de Calgary. Thank you, Karen for inspiring me. It was a great experience, even though I wasn't able to finish the entire tour, which would have been around 110km. I had dinner plans - so i only completed about half of the TDC. My knees and legs were grateful for that. Brit- the crusher with iron legs - did the second half without me - just him and his mountain bike - and finished the whole thing. Congratulations!

Tour de Calgary - North

That's as far north as we got - there is no end to the suburban sprawl - Calgary is still growing!

Me - looking tired before the COP climb. Can you tell that I had enough climbs already? But standing under the Austrian flag (ironically it's the only one that's not moving in the wind) gave me the power to surmount another hill.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning

SCATTERED STRONG THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY OVER SOUTHERN ALBERTA THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THIS IS AN ALERT TO THE POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS. MONITOR WEATHER CONDITIONS..LISTEN FOR UPDATED STATEMENTS. IF THREATENING WEATHER APPROACHES TAKE IMMEDIATE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.

I live in a dangerous place at the moment. Especially, because my means of transportation has only 2 wheels and no roof! Hope hail won't hit me when I am riding my bike to yoga in half an hour.

Life without a car has been good so far. I enjoy doing errands on foot or by bike. I am slowly getting to know which streets are good for riding (like 10th Ave - it's wide and has nice pavement) and which places to avoid (I don't like 14th Street Bridge - the cars are too dominating - I feel like I should be on the sidewalk there - but don't I have the right to be a participant on the road?)

Tomorrow I am going to ride the Tour de Calgary. I will keep you posted.

Happiness...

... is a how, not a what a talent, not an object.
